My Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Review

Baby cribs play an integral role when it comes to providing a safe and comfortable place for your little one to sleep. Otherwise known as “infant beds” they have been in use for a couple hundred years at least and have evolved through many stages. They are far safer than co-sleeping and now have to meet many manufacturing standards to further ensure stability and safety. However, they are not practical to move about which is why there has been a recent development in travel cribs. One particular crib which I purchased recently is the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib and here is my

The Baby Bjorn Travel Crib or (Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light) is an ultra light weight crib that is ideal to take on small or long trips. It is contained in a small case which is easy to carry as well as pack away in a car or SUV. It only takes a minute to set up and provides an excellent crib when the usual crib is not available. In fact, one of my friends uses it as her crib at the moment as she is short on space and it works brilliantly. To set it up, all you need to do is remove it from its carry case, lay it on the floor and push the bottom down and then extend the sides until it clicks. It locks into place and will not enclose on itself when it is in position.

Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Specifications

The Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light comes in two colors with the blue consisting of 65% polyester and 35% cotton, while the gray crib consists of 100% polyester. The bottom and mesh fabric are also 100% polyester. If your child is sensitive or has allergies, the textiles nearest to the child have been tested and approved in accordance with Oeko-Tex Standard 100, class 1. This ensures that the textiles do not contain any hazardous materials that will cause harm to your child or invoke allergies. The crib comes with a soft mattress that is built into the base which keeps the crib upright, which measures at 60cm x 105cm x 4cm. The travel crib also weighs a total of 11lbs or 5 kg’s.

Pros of the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib

Perhaps one of the greatest advantages of the travel crib doesn’t relate to when we are travelling, but rather when our parents look after our girl. Now we can drop of the Baby Born Travel Crib along with all the rest of our goodies and leave her for the night. Folded, it measures 60cm x 49cm x 14cm which is easy to manage on my own, especially since it weights so little. Another advantage is that the mattress and cover is machine washable which helps to ensure that it is always clean and soft for our little one – just make sure to read the instructions on washing to prevent damaging the crib.

Cons of the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib

Perhaps one con is that it took a little while for our girl to be comfortable in the crib. However, this will change from baby to baby as our friend’s baby loved it from the get-go. Another aspect to keep in mind is that the original mattress needs to be used at all times which is essential to the crib’s design and stability. It is also not recommended to leave your baby unattended as it is a little easier to climb out of this crib in comparison to the sturdier and larger home versions.

Final Verdict

As long as you keep in mind that this is a travel crib and should not be purchased as a replacement for a regular crib to be used at home, you should have no problems. It also doesn’t make a good play pen so try to only use it for nap times. After reading other reviews before purchasing it, I noticed that some children managed to climb out from as little as 14 months old so it might not be best for older babies. All in all we have had absolutely no problems with the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib and would purchase it again if we were offered a second chance.
